MARIN stands for Maritime Research Institute Netherlands. MARIN is one of the Netherlands’ five Leading Technology Institutes (GTI's) and specialises in the development and application of hydraulic technology for the maritime sector. The institute contributes directly to the optimum and safe operation of maritime shipping and offshore constructions. Over the years, MARIN has built up a strong reputation and has now become one of the world’s leading institutes in its field and a recognised global Centre of Excellence.
The new communications system consists of 3 work positions: the ship operator, the chief instructor and the student. The system offers 8 VHF channels which even allow the ship operator and the chief instructor to simulate distortion (white noise). There are also 8 intercom channels for point-to-point communication and 1 broadcasting channel which allows the caller to be heard through all the loudspeakers.
